Physician and hospital services obtain in Canada (except Quebec) paid at the standard rate.
Services obtained in Quebec, paid at Quebec rates, which could be less than the amount billed by the physician.

Cost of emergency in-patient / out-patient hospital while outside of Canada

Emergency out-of-country physician and hospital services or services for which prior approval has been received.
Payment at $50.00 a day for out-patient emergency services, and
$100.00 a day for in-patient services resulting from an emergency admission;
Include most laboratory, radiological or interpretation fees billed separately from the hospital claim.
Out-of-country emergency physicians' fees paid in Canadian funds at New Brunswick rates.

WHAT IS COVERED

Physician Services

Medically required services associated with physician and diagnostic services and hospital in-and-out patient care, such as:

  • Certain specified medically required surgical dental procedures provided by a dentist and rendered in an approved hospital

Certain medically necessary surgical-dental procedures which are performed in hospital by a dentist or oral surgeon

Hospital

Standard ward hospitalization in an approved hospital and in-patient services such as:

  • Necessary nursing service
  • Drugs administered while in the hospital
  • Operating room, delivery room and anesthetic facilities
  • Laboratory, X-ray, and other diagnostic services as deemed necessary
  • Therapies such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and audiology
  • Radiotherapy
  • Routine surgical supplies

Drug

New Brunswick Prescription Drug Program (NBPDP) provides prescription drug benefits to a number of eligible beneficiary groups.
NBPDP reimburses drugs dispensed in New Brunswick by a pharmacist or designated dispensing physician.

Plan A - Seniors:

  • This plan is for New Brunswick residents who are 65 years of age and older who receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) or who qualify for benefits based on an annual income as follows:
    • A single senior with an annual income of $17,198 or less
    • A senior couple with one spouse over 65, with a combined annual income of $26,955 or less
    • A senior couple with one spouse under 65, with a combined annual income of $32,390 or less
    • Seniors receiving the GIS are required to pay a co-payment charge of $9.05 for each prescription, up to a maximum of $250 in one calendar year
    • Those seniors who qualify based on their total annual income are required to pay a co-payment of $15.00 per prescription
    • A qualification package is automatically sent to every New Brunswick residents 60 days before their 65th birthday

  • G (Special needs children and children in care of the Minister of Family and Community Services)

  • T (Human Growth Hormone)
  • U (HIV)
  • V (Nursing Home)
